چکیده

Dactylopius opuntiae ‘stricta’ lineage was released more than 20 years ago in South Africa where it has successfully controlled Opuntia stricta. However, its host preference had not been tested against all invasive cacti Africa. Therefore, the possibility exists that might control other cacti. We compared performance of on stricta, humifusa and two lineages engelmannii. Additionally, we assessed if morphology these taxa could be used as an indicator selection by D. opuntiae. Acceptability suitability were measured life history parameters such crawler development time female weight. Principal component analysis six morphometric characters to assess similarities between taxa. stricta is morphologically similar O. engelmannii humifusa, which showed little similarity any some morphological each other. The completed cochineal considered a potential biological agent for humifusa. Conversely, able complete Consequently, would suitable either results show obvious suitability.

Molecular phylogeny of the genus Dactylopius (Hemiptera: Dactylopiidae) and identification of the symbiotic bacteria.

Phylogenetic analyses, from polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-amplified 12S rRNA and 18S rRNA gene sequences from cochineal insects of the genus Dactylopius present in Mexico, showed that D. ceylonicus, D. confusus, and D. opuntiae are closely related. D. coccus constitutes a separate clade, and D. tomentosus is the most distantly related. Bacterial 16S rRNA sequences from all the Dactylopius sp...

Host suitability and gas exchange response of grapevines to potato leafhopper (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae).

Although potato leafhopper, Empoasca fabae (Harris) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), is highly polyphagous, classic host studies do not recognize grapevines (Vitis spp.), as suitable hosts. Recently, injury has been reported and reproduction documented within grape vineyards, suggesting a host expansion for the leafhopper. To document this apparent expansion in host use, we determined whether grape p...

Host Suitability of Rapeseed for Heterodera schachtii.

Because rapeseed, especially canola, has the potential to be grown in rotation with sugarbeet in the north-central region of the United States, this study was initiated to assess its susceptibility to infection by Heterodera schachtii and to develop a screening method for Brassica germplasm. Existing methodology was adapted for growing Brassica juncea, B. napus, B. rapa, Brassica hybrids, and s...
